Chicken Keema Rice

This recipe was inspired by the scorching summers of Gurgaon! When you know the maid is not going to turn up and you have to cook the meal, this quick fix yummy rice dish is the answer!
Chicken Keema Rice

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup - Basmati rice
  • 3 tbsp - Lemon juice
  • 4 Green Chillies - finely chopped (you may add / lessen the green chillies as per your taste)
  • 2 dry Red Chillies
  • 2 cloves Garlic - finely chopped
  • 2 Onions - finely chopped
  • 1 packet - heat and serve frozen keema 
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Jeera
  • 1/2 tsp - Red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp - Cooking Oil
  • Salt to taste
Preparation: For the rice

Boil 1 cup of rice in 2 cups of water. Make sure that rice has been washed thoroughly, else the rice will stick.
Once the rice is cooked, drain the excess water. Mix 2 tbsp lemon juice in the rice and keep aside.

For the Keema

We have used Venky's Heat & Serve Chicken Keema for the preparation. This is readily available in Super Marts like Spencers / Needs / Big Bazaar / Easy Day.

  • In case the keema is frozen, thaw in  microwave for 7 minutes.
  • Now in a frying pan, add Keema and cook till the oil seperates and the keema has become tender. Take the keema out of the frying pan and keep seprately.
  • In the frying pan, add 2 tbsp of oil. Once the oil is hot, add dry red chillies, onion, chillies and garlic. Cook till the onions become translucent.
  • Add Jeera, turmeric powder, red chilli powder. Mix well. Now add salt to taste.
  • Once the spices have been cooked add the keema and mix well.
  • Finally add the cooked rice and mix with the keema. Cook for a minute and take it off the heat.
Chicken Keema rice is ready!




To serve:

Garnish Keema Rice with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve with curd / salad.


Tips:
  • Mix the rice with a fork / a flat spoon so that it does not stick / become a lump.
